The Sustainability Division of the Fulton County Department of Real Estate and Asset Management (DREAM) proudly announces that the Metropolitan Library will now serve in an expanded capacity as the county’s first Community Resilience Hub.
As the site of the Fulton County Community Resilience Hub, the Metropolitan Library will be a place where those in surrounding neighborhoods will be able to become better prepared to react, respond, and recover from emergencies and crises such as extreme weather events and public health pandemics. The Sustainability Division of DREAM began searching for a permanent home for its Community Resilience Hub in January 2020. In addition to the Metropolitan Library, the Southeast Library and Neighborhood Union Health Center were also under consideration to become a Resilience Hub since the project began in 2020 and during the virtual and pop-up community engagement events hosted over the spring and summer of 2021. While Southeast Library and Neighborhood Union Health Center were not selected as the first Resilience Hub site, they will receive some additional technologies such as solar installations and new programming and services, and future implementation as Resilience Hubs when funding is available. As the new Community Resilience Hub, the Metropolitan Library will also provide support to residents and businesses, coordinate communications and operations, while distributing resources all in an effort to enhance resiliency and quality of life.
The Fulton County Community Resilience Hub Project is the result of a $300,000 grant awarded by Southeast Sustainability Directors Network (SSDN) and the Southeast Sustainable Communities Fund (SSCF).
