My Name is Dilma Dos Reis, and I was born in West Africa. I moved to the United States in the ’80s with my mother and three siblings. We moved to Boston, where I lived for twenty years. I then moved to Atlanta with my two daughters in 2009.
A huge part of why I moved to Atlanta was because I wanted to further my career in social justice and become a Victim Advocate. My biggest accomplishment in life is having the opportunity to obtain my Master’s Degree.
I work as an advocate with gratitude and hopefulness for change in my heart. As an advocate, I want to accompany those who are seeking justice and help them obtain it. I was once where they are, and I never want them to feel as I felt at that moment. My core value is to serve and provide service to those who need it.
My passion in life is to travel and see the world I never thought I would see. Hopefully, by the end of my days, I will accomplish my goal. In my travels, I like to try different food and immerse myself in different cultural experiences.
I love to tell jokes. I got it from my grandmother, Belmira Goncalves, who raised me and taught me how to view the world. She always made sure I refer it to the Proverbs. She passed away at the age of a hundred years old and left these words with me; “Never be the victim of anything or anyone. Show victory and make sure everyone sees you as a winner. Treat everyone with respect, even animals, because everything and everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. Once you respect everyone, everything in life will fall into place.”
