Gautam Rao serves as a Deputy District Attorney with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office under the leadership of District Attorney Fani T. Willis. Mr. Rao is in charge of implementation and coordination for office-wide training, as well as serving as Assistant Legal Counsel to the District Attorney. Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Rao served at every level of the District Attorney’s Office including the Complex Trial Division, the Crimes Against Women and Children Unit (now the Special Victim’s Unit), and ultimately the Major Case Unit tasked with prosecuting all homicides within the jurisdiction.
Mr. Rao started working for the District Attorney’s Office in 2014 and after graduating from the Emory University School of Law, was offered a full-time position as an Assistant District Attorney. During his time with the office, Mr. Rao gained extensive felony trial experience in prosecutions involving charges of Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, Rape, Aggravated Child Molestation, and Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity, and Murder. He has been entrusted with high-profile prosecutions and complex multi-defendant prosecutions, as well as earning multiple awards for his service to the District Attorney’s Office as a trial attorney.
During his tenure as a prosecutor, Mr. Rao has had the benefit of having been trained and mentored by some of the best trial attorneys in the State of Georgia, including the District Attorney herself. As they have all been a credit to his success as a prosecutor, Mr. Rao now seeks to provide the same benefit of his experience to assist with meeting the needs and training of the Office to ensure that it continues to exceed the standards in holding Defendants accountable for their actions and providing Victims and their families with justice.
