Assistant Chief Richard Stein’s 23-year career in law enforcement has landed him experience in detention centers, patrol divisions, and since 2009, investigations. Stein has led investigations involving every type of criminal investigation at the local, state and federal level. In 2019, Stein joined the Fulton County District Attorney’s office as an Investigator for the Crimes Against Women & Children Unit and was quickly promoted to Senior Investigator for the Capital & Cold Case Unit. Stein’s innovative approach to investigations and use of industry’s best practices have resulted in the arrest and successful prosecution of perpetrators committing some of the most heinous crimes against child and adult victims.
During his tenure he secured funding to start a Special Victims Unit which he led for 13-years, and later a pilot program called the Special Victims Patrol Task Force to increase the knowledge and competency of every patrol shift in responding to crimes against children. This new program’s success resulted in continued funding, and most importantly resulted in decreasing the risk of additional trauma experienced by victims during initial call response.
Dedicating his free time to help impact future law enforcement professionals and victim providers, Assistant Chief Stein is a frequent guest lecturer at local universities and area non-profit victim providers. He has served on the board of directors for his area’s domestic violence shelter. Stein also enjoys working closely with the advocates and volunteers with Rape Response during their ongoing training sessions.
Stein’s extensive professional training certifications and investigation experience, along with his understanding of interagency collaborative partners, has improved response to crimes against persons and the necessary working relationships this field demands for successful investigation of such crimes.
