Fulton County Prepares for Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day, November 1, 2023

The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Georgia Emergency Management, the Homeland Security Agency, and the National Weather Service, declares Wednesday, November 1, 2023, as Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day for schools, businesses, and individuals.

Climatology Models from the National Weather Service show that this year, parts of Georgia, including Fulton County, will see a secondary peak in severe weather, including tornadoes, during November and early December.

Fulton County residents can prepare for severe weather with the Ready Georgia campaign (https://gema.georgia.gov/plan-prepare/ready-georgia), as it offers resources and information residents can use to be informed about potential threats. Residents can also develop a Communications Plan and create an Emergency Ready Kit.

As individuals and families prepare for the Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day, schools and businesses will conduct their own severe weather exercise/tornado drill, activated by the NOAA Weather Radio's Routine Weekly Test. All six National Weather Service Forecast Offices will simultaneously issue this particular routine weekly radio test across the state around 9:30 a.m. This is a significant opportunity for residents to practice their safety plans and ensure they are prepared for emergencies.

Employers can use the Ready Your Business guide (https://gema.georgia.gov/plan-prepare/ready-georgia/business) to create custom contingency plans, and children can visit the ReadyKids page (https://gema.georgia.gov/ready-kids-teacher-and-parent-toolkit) for age-appropriate information, videos, and games.
