Fulton County Department of Emergency Services is preparing to recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) from April 9 - 15, 2023. The week will be spent celebrating and thanking telecommunications personnel across the nation who serve our communities, citizens, and public safety personnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Every day and night across the country, public safety telecommunicators answer emergency and non-emergency calls. They connect callers to emergency care and provide valuable resources to those in need. An estimated 1 million calls are made to Fulton County 9-1-1 each year. Fulton County 9-1-1 receives and dispatch police, fire and emergency medical calls for the cities of Chattahoochee Hills, Fairburn, Palmetto, South Fulton, Union City, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton County Police, Fulton County Marshals, Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, Fulton County Solicitor’s Office, Fulton County Schools, Fulton County Animal Services and Grady Emergency Medical Services.
Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman has recognized National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and honored Fulton County Department of Emergency Services’ staff by releasing an official resolution. This resolution recognizes Fulton County 9-1-1 Communications Officers as First Responders and part of the critical infrastructure of the public safety framework.
“Our 9-1-1 operators are the FIRST of the first responders and the unseen heroes of Public Safety,” said Chris Sweigart, Director of Fulton County Emergency Services. “We rely on our operators to be the calm voice during an emergency situation and to provide top notch customer service to our citizens and public safety personnel.”
