SECOND SUMMIT TO COMBAT ELDER ABUSE SET FOR OCTOBER 21
SECOND SUMMIT TO COMBAT ELDER ABUSE SET FOR OCTOBER 21
You ever wonder how a grandmother on your street got a bruised arm? Perhaps you suspect your neighbor who has a disability is not caring for him or herself the way used to. What about the senior citizens next door who just got scammed out of their savings? How can you stop this abuse? What should you look for, and what can you do?
These are some of the questions that will be answered at Fulton County’s next Senior Summit on Elder Abuse Awareness, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Center, 677 Fairburn Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30331.
The summit, a second in a series, is hosted by Fulton County Mighty6 District Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman and will feature District Attorney Fani Willis, Superior Court Judge Kevin Farmer and Probate Judge Kenya Johnson to provide solutions and answers to seniors’ questions and concerns.
“Our seniors are vital members of our community, but there are some who see them as
vulnerable,” said Commissioner Khadijah. “I’m thrilled our justice partners are back for a second time to protect our seniors; it is a top priority, and so is prosecuting those who scam, exploit, and harm them.”
“Seniors are too often targeted by criminals who seek to hurt them physically or financially,” said D.A. Willis. “That’s why my Office, through our new Elder Abuse Unit, is making a strong effort to protect them. We greatly appreciate Commissioner Khadijah’s effort to educate seniors on how they can stay safe, and we look forward the event.”
“Probate Court’s new mission is to educate and empower communities and its elders about estate planning, legacy giving and generational wealth,” said Judge Johnson. “The Mighty6 District’s work to offer life-improving services to seniors speaks volumes about the respect county leadership has for those who cared for us in the past, and the county’s investment in our future. Probate Court is excited to fulfill our mission by partnering with experienced lawyers to offer free estate planning services to the communities where we serve and live.”
There is limited seating, therefore seniors who wish to participate must register in advance. Call (404) 612-8222 for more information on how to register.
